The necklace
The cheerful little girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five.
Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them, a circle of
glistening white pearls in a pink foil box.
'Oh mommy please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please?'
Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then
looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face.
'A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them,
I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough
money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you
might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma.'
As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out
17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went
to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten
cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at
last she had enough money to buy the necklace.

Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up.
She wore them everywhere, Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only
time she took them off was when she went sw imming or had a bubble bath.
Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for
bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a
story. One night as he finished the story, he asked Jenny, 'Do you love me?'
'Oh yes, daddy. You know that I love you.'
'Then give me your pearls.'
'Oh, daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess, the white horse
from my collection, the one with the pink tail. Remember, daddy? The one you
gave me. She's my very favorite.'
'That's okay, Honey, daddy loves you. Good night.' And he brushed her
cheek with a kiss.
About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again,
'Do you love me?'
'Daddy, you know I love you.'
'Then give me your pearls.'
'Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The brand new
one I got for my birthday. She is beautiful and you can have the yellow
blanket that matches her sleeper.'
'That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you.'
And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.
A fe w nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her
bed with her legs crossed Indian style.
As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent
tear rolled down her cheek.
'What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?'
Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy.
And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little
quiver, she finally said, 'Here, daddy; this is for you.'

With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached out with
one hand to take the dime store necklace, and with the other hand he reached
into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine
pearls and gave them to Jenny.

He had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up the
dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure. So it is, with
our Heavenly Father. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our
lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures.
God will never take away something without giving you something better
in its place.
You can do two things with this story:
A. Pass it on and let others be touched by its message;
B. Throw it away and not let it touch your heart.
The greatest gifts happen when you share love and touch others

When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I
take her someplace expensive....
so, I took her to a gas station.....

and then the fight started....

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office
to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for
my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized
I had left my wallet at home.

I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would
have to go home and come back later.

The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'.

So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.
She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me'
and she processe d my Social Security applic ation.

When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my
experience at the Social Security office.

She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You
might have gotten disability, too'

And then the fight started.....

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high
school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as
she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asked,'Do you know her?'
'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right
after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'

'My God!' says my wife, 'Who would think a
person could go on celebrating that long?'

And then the fight started.....

I rear-ended a car this morning.

So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the
other driver got out of his car.

You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and
little things just seem funny?

Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... he was a DWARF!!!

He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and
shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!!!'

So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then
which one are you?'

And then the fight started.....

Kelsey came home!

She is a cutey pie! I took a few pictures. I wanted to put her in the mailbox...but Jamie wouldn't let me. She said she isn't an Ann Gedde baby. lol
I pulled threads for another Christmas stocking today. I hope to start on it tomorrow. Today I worked on the blue blanket and a few more hours and it will be done. Have a great night stitching...I am off to watch the news and then it is off to bed. huggerz laurel

Jamie and Kelsey are coming home today

I was told this AM that they are going home today. I sure wish she would stay a couple more days. She is nursing the baby, so there is no help with that! lol Jayson is at his dads and I have Morgan. Anyway...the baby and Jamie are doing good. Kelsey has lost 6 ounces. I am sure that she will gain all that back.



I started 3 baby blankets the day Kelsey was born. One granny square with pink and white (I ran out of pink), one blue and white granny square and a 12 point round ripple with newborn print(ran out of newborn print yarn) and yellow. I need to have a few blankets to keep up with the babies around here. Ashley (niece) is due in Aug and she won't tell what she is having so I need to do boy and girl blankets! Hey Toni....My air conditioner is not working ...so today is going to be a hot one in this house. I live in a stinking mobile home! Heaven help me when I start talkin trailer trash! I just better not get started cause I can out do Jeff Foxworthy. huggerz and stitching....laurel

Here are some pictures of Kelsey. She was born at 1:05 today and weighed in at 6 pounds 7 ounces and was 19 inches long. She was born by c-section. She is just so tiny! gotta get to bed...I am tired! lo huggerz laurel

ABC Christmas Sampler finish

Well almost finished...I still have to back stitch. I finished the last square last night and then started a round ripple baby blanket. Today I am going to cut some fiddlers fabric and pull threads for another Christmas stocking.

It's going to be a hot day ...in more than one way. Jamie is 7 days away from her due date! Well off to stitch. huggerz laurel

ABC Christmas WIP...... almost finished!!!

Well the Yule Log is done...I have one more square to do! Yahoo! I also made a bay hat to match a blanket. I forgot to take a picture of the hat and I have already sent it home with Jamie. I will see if she will bring it back for a picture.

It is supposed to be real hot today. Brittany left to go to Sarah's to do baby shower stuff...and she took both kids. Jamie is still waiting on the baby. And me? Progress on the ABC Christmas Sampler

I made some progress on the ABC Christmas Sampler...2 more squares to go and then I can back stitch and add the beads! I will probably do a Christmas stocking first. Need a change of scenery! lol I think it is going to be beautiful and I should start looking for a frame. I was given some large frames last year and have picked up a few large frames at garage sales. I guess I should look for them to see if anything fits! So back to stitching have a great Sunday!
